A non-destructive testing technique called Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) testing replicates the loading of a moving wheel and analyses the pavement's response at the site of loading and at different offsets from the load. A more recent iteration of the Benkelman Beam test is FWD testing. In addition to being quicker and more practical, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) testing is also safer because no personnel are exposed to moving traffic or blind spots inside the car. In order to test heavy duty pavements, Durkin may also offer Heavy Falling Weight Deflectometer (HFWD or HWD) testing.
