How to install Turbotax on Mac without cd drive?

Step 1: Download TurboTax software

The good news is that you can download TurboTax software and still have the experience of sitting down and going through it at your leisure.

Here's how:

Go to Intuit TurboTax website.
Click 'Get Started Now. If there is no pop-up, look for the 'TurboTax' tab in the centre of the screen. Click on that.
You'll be asked to enter your email address or sign up with Facebook.
Once you do this, click Create Account.
Next, create an account by entering information like name, date of birth and Social Security number.
After you've done this, click Continue.
You'll then see a pop-up box that says Download Software, allowing you to download TurboTax directly onto your computer.

Step 2: Create a USB Drive

Attach the flash drive to your computer.
In Finder, go to the Applications folder and open Terminal.
Type brutal attach /dev/disk1 (minus quotation marks) in Terminal and press Enter or Return. This makes your flash drive available as a volume called D.
Type touch.DS_Store (minus quotation marks) in Terminal and press Enter or Return. This prevents the Finder from seeing hidden files when looking at D:

Step 3: Find your download file.

After finding your download file, open the file and follow the installation instructions. During installation, it will ask you for your product key. Enter your Serial Number and then click on Install. It will also prompt you where to save the program files when installing. Pick whichever location is most convenient for you by clicking OK, then hit Enter.

Step 4: Click continue when asked if you want to open the downloaded file.

If you have closed the window for the downloaded file, double-click the icon for the file in your Downloads folder. A new window will open, with options for opening the downloaded file. If you do not see an option that allows you to open the file, look in Finder under Applications Utilities and choose an application (usually Adobe Acrobat Reader) that can read files of this type.

Step 5: Choose your USB drive

If you do not have an external CD drive and don't want to use one of your existing hard drives, or if your computer cannot boot from an external CD, then an option is to use one of the new USB flash drives. This will install TurboTax without CD.

You'll just need one that has at least 4GB of storage space but can go up to 64GB depending on your installing software. Select Other and This Computer. Click Continue when asked to confirm overwriting any data on the USB flash drive. The installation process will continue.

Step 6: Install TurboTax software
